beacon collective

beacon collective provides a support space for new Canadians and the aging population in Ottawa’s Hintonburg neighbourhood. Filled with community art, the open, light filled spaces encourage artistic and cultural exchange between the residents of the community. The white cube gallery acts as a beacon, visible from multiple access points, connecting the site to the public park and residential neighbourhood as well as the commercial community of Hintonburg. Open sight lines from the entry into the garden, and between the gallery and the lower floors establish connections between the various spaces. The structure incorporates materials and details that references the local context such as the brick façade and art covered walls that are integral to the values of the community.
